Marshfield Investment Partners, LLC

Criteria for Considering Investments

The Marshfield Investment Partners, LLC is a member driven organization designed to provide an opportunity for individual members to consider taking equity commitments in seed-stage and early-stage companies with the potential to rapidly scale into market and financial leadership. This generally implies companies that possess the potential for high growth, a strong market position, and a sustainable advantage. In general, ideal candidates will have some or all of the following characteristics:

  • A complete, compelling and well articulated business plan and strategy for capturing and defending a significant market share.
  • A market opportunity sufficiently large to create a business with strong potential for significant annual revenues.
  • Proprietary technology or other strong barriers to competitor entry.
  • Strong management (not necessarily a complete team) with relevant and successful experience.
  • An exit strategy for the investors.
  • A desire for advice and coaching.
  • An entrepreneur that has made a significant personal investment and acquired additional investment dollars from friends and family.
  • An entrepreneur with a company seeking a minimum of $100,000 in equity financing.
  • The company valuation must fit within investor’s risk/reward expectations for the investment. This would include a high ratio between market opportunity and the total investment.
  • The entrepreneurial venture either is or will be located within Wisconsin; preferably the Greater Central Wisconsin region (within 100 miles), or has an existing strategic alliance with an existing Central Wisconsin company or companies.
  • A company with the potential to make a significant impact on the Marshfield area economy through job creation, direct investment, or other ancillary economic benefits.

Investors will look for situations where the capital sought will take the company to the next level, and materially increase its valuation. A company must be able to demonstrate how it will use the investment to complete at least some of the following:

  • Proof of concept
  • Prototype of its product or technology
  • Patent filing (for broad patent)
  • Product development
  • Market research
  • Product launch
  • Major contract or customers
  • Management team development
